Port Arthur was a prison and only the worst of the worst were sent here. It was the equal to a maxium security prison today. Only 10% remains today and what is left was only what was standing after a nasty bush fire about a hundred years ago. The place has gone through many changes over the years and now is a main site for tourism. Pretty interesting really and a great tour!
